Artist Statement
“Art has been my passion ever since I was little. My grandfather was a commercial artist, and I can remember watching him work, and just being completely transfixed and inspired by his capabilities.
I came to the realization that for one to discover their true calling in life, is a rare gift, and one must only have the courage and motivation to pursue it. Creating art gives me purpose, and I have devoted my life toward perfecting my craft. I teach high school art at McArthur High School, including two Advanced Placement Studio Art classes, and being around so many artistically gifted young minds, does more for me than I can ever have imagined. I am around something that I love every day, and I feel blessed to say that I have never worked a day in my life.
I find inspiration for my paintings all over the place, my mind is one tracked on creation and is continuously filled with ideas or thoughts for a new piece. What I choose to paint has a lot to do with my feelings at the time. Each one of my works holds specific meaning for me, and is a direct reflection of my interests, thoughts and desires. Many of my paintings combine detailed naturalistic subjects, placed in a surreal environment. I have a very deep respect for realism, but am in love with how a surreal painting can visually transport the viewer above and beyond reality. The further that I get in my career, and the better my paintings come out, the more I feel an insatiable desire to create! It both motivates and excites me knowing that my best has yet to come.
